Taipei for family (with kids)

i've visited taipei twice (in 2008 & 2009). for this time, its a family holiday with the kids during the year-end school holiday.

usually for travelling with kids, we prefer to join those tour package as it will save us lots of hassle of planning. however as the boys are older now, we decided its time to embark on our self plan trip to explore.our trip in dec 2011 was a 10D9N holiday covering 3 cities:


day 1-4: taipei 台北
day 4-7: hualien 花莲
day 7-10: jhongli 中壢

arrived at taoyuan international airport in the evening...firstly, apply for a local SIM card. that way i will have voice and data access during my stay here. Yippy!!

application is easy. as your cleared the custom and collected your luggages, you will walk pass some counters. there is a row of counters of the various telco in taiwan.  you can compare the rates they offer. choose one that meets your need.

i got the one offered by chunghwa telco.  application is fast and the SIM card is activated almost immediate. Great.  I can continue FB and watsapps with my friends.

for transfer to taipei city, you can either opt for the express train, airport bus or taxi. we decided to 'have fun' with the train.  do note that the train station is not located at the airport.  you need to take a shuttle bus transfer to the Taoyuan HSR Station.

UBus to Taoyuan HSR Station (adult: NT$30, child NT$15)
HSR Ticket to Taipei Main Station (adult: NT$160, child NT$80)

our 3 nights stay at taipei was a serviced apartment - Master Inn Serviced Apartment. Good location. In front of Taipei Main Station / Taipei Bus Station and next to Q Square.


as we have 4 pax (2 adults & 2 kids), i have to look for rooms that are spacious with sufficient bedding.our itinerary for taipei as follow:

day 2
full day of play at BABY BOSS
dinner at Farmosa Chang 鬍鬚張
walk around at Wufenpu 五分埔 


day 3
metro ridevisit to Taipei Zoo
gondola ride up to Maokong 貓空
dinner at DingTaiFung 鼎泰丰


day 4
must have breakfast at 阜杭豆漿
train transfer to hualien 花莲


as mentioned, this is a trip for kids. as such, we have skipped other locations - taipei 101, xinyi shopping belt, ximenting, shilin market, danshui and beitou (it's fine for me since i've visited these places during previous trips) by the way, if you wondering on the trip route, well, no worry, you will know about it as you read on ^^
